We developed a production-ready telephony platform that integrates Retell's conversational AI with a hybrid SIP infrastructure, starting with Twilio Elastic SIP Trunking and evolving to a FreePBX/Jambonz BYOC solution for greater cost efficiency and control. The system is capable of handling 500+ concurrent AI survey calls with 99.4% completion rates, featuring real-time call monitoring, and comprehensive post-call analytics including full transcripts, response extraction, and sentiment analysis.

Challenge: Reliable AI-Call Delivery at Scale
The project required building a platform capable of handling the intricate challenges of large-scale AI-powered survey calls, including a personalized carrier SIP integration, real-time call quality management, and cost optimizations and developing a robust post-call data pipeline. Balancing high-performance AI interactions with reliable telephony infrastructure posed a significant technical and operational challenge.
Scalable SIP Architecture with Real-Time Analytics
To address these challenges, we implemented a scalable SIP architecture that evolved from initial Twilio Elastic SIP Trunking to a more cost-efficient FreePBX/Jambonz BYOC solution, providing granular call control and routing flexibility. The system integrates real-time call monitoring with a comprehensive post-call webhook that delivers transcripts, duration/cost metrics, respondent answers, and sentiment analysis.

Our journey from Twilio to the Jambonz BYOC integration wasn't just about cost savings, it gave us the granular control we needed to implement an AI-powered survey delivery.

The solution delivered consistent performance across all key metrics, proving reliable for daily survey operations. By transitioning from Twilio to the FreePBX/Jambonz setup, we maintained call quality while reducing costs, a practical balance for production use, and the post-call analytics provide unprecedented visibility into survey performance.
